Cultural Strategy & Heritage Stewardship
Overview
Developed with the President of the Cambridge Union, The Order of Time was a major sculptural exhibition exploring the relationship between institutional heritage, intellectual exchange and the passage of time. Inspired by Carlo Rovelli’s book of the same name, the exhibition brought together sculpture, installation, painting, ceramics, architectural maquettes, archival material and personal collections across the Union’s historic interiors. Spanning the Library, Debating Chamber, Writing Room and Fairfax Room, the project responded to more than two centuries of debate, discovery and free expression. A monumental fractured-oval sculpture, an installation of 210 carved stones representing each year since the Union’s foundation in 1815, and a large-scale abstract work in the Debating Chamber connected the institution’s history with its continuing role as a forum for intellectual exchange. The exhibition approached cultural stewardship as an active process, bringing historical narratives into dialogue with contemporary artistic practice, revealing connections between collections, architecture and institutional identity, and creating new ways for audiences to encounter a place and its legacy. His wider practice as a Cultural Architect and Artistic Director is informed by this approach to cultural vision and interpretation, connecting art, heritage, research and interdisciplinary collaboration to explore how institutions can sustain their cultural relevance and create lasting meaning for future generations.
